The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) Tails n' Scales application serves as an electronic reporting system designed for recording all Red Snapper landings in Mississippi. The utilization of this platform is mandatory for captains or owners of recreational and for-hire vessels landing Red Snapper within the Mississippi waters.

The primary objective behind implementing this electronic reporting system is to gather data on recreational Red Snapper landings in Mississippi. This data will play a crucial role in equipping fishery managers with the most accurate information, ensuring optimal opportunities and flexibility for fisheries harvest among Mississippi anglers.

Access to the system is also available online at www.tailsnscales.org, aiming to facilitate a seamless and efficient reporting process.

Anglers are required to register by providing their name, email, and either their state vessel registration number or USCG vessel documentation number. Upon registration, anglers need to request a trip number for each trip targeting Red Snapper. The issuance of new trip numbers is dependent on the timely reporting of previous catches.

Essential information that must be reported at the conclusion of each trip includes the landing location of the vessel, the count of anglers, duration of fishing activity, quantity of Red Snapper harvested, and details regarding the fishing area (natural bottom, rig, or artificial reef).
